Amsterdam Meeting Points
Life in Amsterdam's favourite business meet up spots in town. Here we list bar-restaurants that:
> have ample tables and comfortable seats
> have great parking facilities and located nearby public transport hubs
> are not too noisy nor romantic.
Dauphine (Amstel Station)
Cuisine: International
Ambiance: Modern, trendy, suitable for a business lunch.
Why we love it: Table-wise and parking-wise it’s a great business meet up place. However, it’s got very popular and it may not always be easy to get a table. Food-wise it is OK, not special, but better than at an ‘eetcafe’. A definite place-to-be-seen for the entrepreneurial minded.
Pricing: Hamburger XL or Vegaburger with fries for E13.50
Good to know: Every Friday Dauphine turns into a club from 20h15 till past midnight.
Dauphine, Prins Bernardplein 175, opposite Amstel station, Amsterdam.
Dicky’s Grand cafe (Zuid WTC)
Ambiance: Cosmopolitan, business; you see lot’s of ties, but not in a stuck-up-way.
Why we love it: Dicky’s brings some ‘gezelligheid’ to the Zuid As. It is the only Grand Cafe there and has the right balance between formality and spontaneity. The interior is stylish yet warm, due to the use of red colours, velvet fabric and playful shapes. For (business) lunch, I’d go to the neighbours Gustavino (Italian) or Oliver’s (sandwiches, soups and salads in a funky, NYC-meat-district-ish setting).
Good to know: Popular vrijmibo (Griday afternoon drink) spot.
Parking: There are some parking spots on the Gustav Mahlerlaan, and otherwise in the Mahler parking garage, located on this street.
Dicky’s Grand Cafe, Gustav Mahlerplein 110, Zuid As (on the south side of the station, opposite those orange buildings), Amsterdam.
Vak Zuid – Eating & drinking in former Olympic stadium! (Amsterdam south)
what we love It is a very spacious place where you can both drink and eat after work. It is also good for a large group, as you have a bar after dinner.
Stylish and Asian fusion dinner menu
One of the few cocktail bar in amsterdam
must have dish Sharing dinner (E42.00 pp), even for 2 business men this menu option is suitable.
drinks Try one the perfect after-work, pep-me-up cocktail Metropolis (€ 8,50). Fresh Strawberries, Bols Strawberry Liqueur, Absolut Vodka, Cava. They also have more masculine drinks, in case sweet&pink is not your thing...
frowns Wine selection is poor, especially considering the high level of food menu.
They should open on Saturday for lunch during spring and summer; their terrace is superb and super unique!
parking One can park on the Stadiumplein or otherwise in the parking garage under the Olympic Stadium.
Vak Zuid , Olympisch Stadion 35, AmsterdamLloyd’s hotel - North-east of the Centre, close to Central Station
Ambiance: The mixed clientele (tourists, business people, locals) gives the place a lively ambiance. Not hotel-like at all!
Why we love it: The interior is pretty cool and very ‘breathable’: lots of light, space and modern design without getting a ‘cold and sterile’ feeling. The mixed clientele, the refreshing set up of the bar and having the option to sit at a table or in the sofa, gives the place whatever you wish: gezelligheid, privacy, comfort or a table to work at.
Good to know: For some art-vitamins, climb the stairs where you’ll find modern art works at the Cultural Embassy (free entrance).
How to get there & parking: If you have people coming from the A1, eg from Hilversum/Amersfoort, meeting at the Lloyd hotel is a good place. The hotel is easy to reach from the A10 exit S114. There’s a parking garage on the Oostelijke Handelskade.
Lloyd Hotel, Oostelijke Handelskade 34 (nearby KNSM island) Amsterdam.
Wissenkerke
Ambiance: Lively during lunch and Friday afternoons.
Why we love it: It’s the only spark of joy between the concrete buildings and bare grounds.
Good to know: They serve wine by the glass - another little joy during the working day. (I glass won’t hurt, in my opinion.)
How to get there & Parking: Any mode of public transport; Station Sloterdijk is at walking distance. There’s a car park in front of the lunch room.
Wissenkerke, Orly Centre Gebouw, Radarweg 263, Amsterdam-Sloterdijk.
Gummmbar at Amstel Business ParkGummmbar (added April'12)
Ambiance: Lively during lunch and tranquil at other times.
Why we love it: EVERYTHING is freshly made, including the mayonnaise!
Good to know: The gummmbar is also referred to as 'Kauwgomballen fabriek', meaning 'chewing gum factory'. From 1953 till 2003 Sportlife and Xylifresh were made here. Now it's a non-sticky, factory-like and modern meet up place.
How to get there & Parking: Located in the Amstel Business Park, you can reach Gummmbar by metro (station Overamstel). However, it's easier to reach the place by car A10 exit S111. There's ample PAID parking space, so it great for meeting up with people from out of town, i.e. Utrecht
Must-try: Ham of lamb, raz-el-hanout mayonnaise sandwich (E6.50)
Making a reservation is not necessary, yet it is crowded at lunch time.
Gummmbar, Paul van Vlissingenstraat 8a, Amsterdam.
