Bucketlist of 10 things to do - for Amsterdam visitors
During my summer break, I won't leave my readers un-entertained. Everyday an item to the bucketlist is added; before the end of the summer it will feature 100 items not-to-miss in town.
For Amsterdam visitors, I have made a 10-items-bucketlist below.
Wishing everyone a great summer 2012!
Groetjes,
Kira
1. Enjoy the bike
Keep right, don’t stop abruptly, give priority to traffic coming from the right and make as much use of the bike lanes. Now explore the town. When taking a break: double lock the bike. Good luck!
1. Enjoy the bike
2. Enjoy the Amstel, now until forever
Rent a boat and kiss under the Magere Brug. Sit down at a river-side terrace. For a never-to-forget experience, bike along the river southwards, passing meadows and ‘summer houses’ down to Ouderkerk a/d Amstel (7km).
2. Enjoy the Amstel river
3. Enjoy an Amsterdam brew
Amsterdam has a world-class brewing tradition. visit a brewery with a tasting room such as Wynand Fockink dating back to 17th century, or Brouwerij ‘t IJ a beer brewery with a phenomenal terrace. Two ‘museums’ honour Amsterdam’s brewing heritage: the Heineken Experience and the House of Bols.

4. Enjoy Amsterdam tunes
Amsterdam has the most visited Concert Building in the world (classic/jazz/world) and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam hosts performances by new talents. Cafe Alto is the best jazz bar in town. Enjoy a living room concert in a canal house, or a concert at music house Bimhuis (jazz/improv) or music temple Melkweg.
4. Enjoy Amsterdam tunes.
5. Enjoy Dutch cuisine
Winkel 43 is known to serve the best apple pie in town, but I prefer a ‘koffie & appeltaart’ at Cafe Papeneiland. Reypenaer cheese its tasting room is worth a visit. For a true acquaintance to Dutch cuisine have dinner at a Dutch restaurants and a kroket at Van Dobben or Cornelis.

A visit to at least ONE Amsterdam museum is a must. From the internationally praised museums shown above, to lesser known, small museums - there is enough variety to suit your taste!
6. Enjoy Amsterdam visual delights
7. Enjoy Amsterdam market vibes
Get a sense of ‘daily life’ of Amsterdammers at the Albert Cuypmarket. There are two Saturday farmers’ markets with organic delights. For an acquaintance with Amsterdam’s multicultural population visit the Dappermarkt.
7. Enjoy Amsterdam market vibes.
8. Enjoy & Relax, Amsterdam style
The Vondelpark is the city’s most popular park offering you a great insight into how amsterdammers relax. The Wertheim park and the Amstelpark are my personal favourites. The Hortus Botanicus is an oasis of tranquility. Or wander around town and discover a hidden courtyard!
8. Enjoy & relax, Amsterdam-style
9. Enjoy the Amsterdam Jordaan
