Best Burgers in Amsterdam
The Netherlands is finally mastering the art of a good burger. Lombardo's set the tone with the country's most expensive burger: Wagyu beef served on a brioche, topped with foie gras, Pata Negra Iberico ham, winter truffle and finished with 22 carat gold leaves*. If you don't have E60 to spend this burger, you are not confined to the Golden Arches, nor the famous Dutch 'fast food ATM'. Find here a list of Amsterdam's best burger places.
*Do call Lombardo's that you'd like to have the burger a few days in advance. Lombardo's, Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 50, T. 020 4205010

Maxie Burger @ Brasserie Maxie's
Since I've been eating it at least ten times, it's only fair to blog about it. And what better time to do it in the Superbowl weekend? Brasserie Maxie’s is located in the chic PC Hooftstraat. Now don't think the Maxie Burger is 'PC-style chic' served with foie gras and gold leaves. No, it is huge and served with a side salad, fries and mayonaisse. The large juicy beef patty is topped with a fresh sliced salad, a secret sauce and a fried egg. All of this is served on two large pieces of fluffy Turkish bread. For E14 you have a complete meal. Brasserie Maxie's, PC Hooftstraat 100, Amsterdam.

Sunny’s burger joint
I lost my photos, so I had to steal one from the web. Here: beef burger with extra jalapeno. Photo by Merel Zwart.I’m happy I don’t need to make a ranking of the places I’m reviewing… as I wouldn’t know: which burger place I think is the best: BurgerBar, Maxie’s or Sunny’s burger?
At Sunny’s burger joint I enjoyed a chicken burger with the original sauce (E5). It was big, it was juicy and very tasty - not overly greasy and not drenched in sauce. The original sauce has a spicy bite to it, making you long for more*.
*don’t take another one, that’ll make you sick. Rather opt for the home made fries.
As all seats were taken, the owner lead me via the kitchen to the Chinese restaurant next door, which is run by his brother.
always good….
an open & clean kitchen.
Sunny on the move in his kitchen. Photo by Phillip M.also on offer:
- regular, original burger E5.30
- 6 divine sauces (free)
- home made fries
- and complimentary smile!
Good to know:
cash only and super-friendly service.
Sunny’s Burger Joint, Leidsekruisstraat 29, Leidseplein area, Amsterdam. Open daily, I presume.
I'll make photos on my next trip. Photo sourced via Mobypicture and Foursquare - thank you Social Medianatics!
