Best Indian Restaurants in Amsterdam

Guided by our Indian friends, we share with you our favourite Indian restaurants in Amsterdam. This selection is very short though, as we never felt the need to try other Indian restaurants after frequnting Taj Mahal and the recently-closed Guru. Therefore, we’ve done some additional research and came up with the following list of Indian restaurants praised by Amsterdammers.

Taj Mahal

+ Good, authentic Indian food.
+ Most friendly service.
+ Has got a terrace.
- Interior can use a modern update.

Restaurant/Delivery Service: Indian Express
We’ve never dined here, only experienced the delivery service on a monthly basis. Dutch/partly English menu is on the website, under the tab ‘Producten’.

Tip: Food tastes better when presented well. So dish in the kitchen and enjoy the food properly from a plate, instead of eating out of the containers.
 + Even the delivery food has been approved by Indian-natives.
+ Good to boost your supply of food containers.
- Interior can use an update (according review websites)

+ Stylish cocktail lounge present
+ Overall stylish, modern interior
+ Great for “entertaining guests that are not major foodies” (source: multiple Indian native friends)
- Food is disappointing for "experts in Indian food”

Bombay Inn
+ Authentic, Indian food that “comes close to what we would have at home or at our parents. The flavours really infuse into the meat/chicken dishes, the vegetarian dishes are also very flavoursome. The food is cooked by the Indian parents, they manage to get the flavor right through the ingredients”. (source: 2 Indian friends)
+ Reasonably priced
- Limited menu
- Interior can use a modern update

I have lived in India and have many indian friends and we all agree that Mayur Indian Restaurant (www.mayur.nl) is the best in terms of ambiance and excellent authentic indian food. I visit Mayur perhaps once a week I like it that much. Taj Mahal is also a great indian restaurant.

Surya restaurant in de Pijp, Amsterdam is a great place to be. I have been there many times and tried different Indian and Nepalese dishes. You can feel that the dishes are prepared with love. In addition to that friendly service and nice ambiance, I love going there again and again as it is so relaxing sitting in Surya with nice background music.

Went Vijaya restaurant for Indonesian Rice table and was really surprised by the perfect indian dishes as well . Enjoyed the Indonesian Ricetable and the Indian Thali .....although I am not a spicy food eater but loved the food .Nice friendly people . Recomended to my friends and they also dine there for Indian food . For me restaurant Vijaya has the best Indian cuisine......Love Indian food since then.
