bucketlist #89. Obtain an Amsterdam memory at Saskya & co
89. The Tradewind collection is only available at Saskya & co, Amsterdam. The first ‘Made in Holland’ modern gift shop is that of Saskya & Co. Located on the Singel in the shade of the "Koepelkerk", the shop is a must-visit before your departure.
Unlike other souvenir shops, with mass productions from China and uninspiring items you don’t know what to do with, Saskya’s products are both esthetically appealing, original and remind you of our lovely life in The Netherlands.
To give you some ideas:
- handmade handbags, made of bicycle inner tires.
- typically Dutch tea towels with a cosmopolitan city twist
- Delft style special coated paper vases.
Most noteworthy is the Tradewind collection
The Tradewind collection is made from porcelain shards have laid on the bottom of a VOC ship that sunk in 1625 in the South China Sea. The Ming porcelain, Kraak, was the first blue & white porcelain to arrive in Europe, which later became very popular. The porcelain charmed buyers with its lively and spontaneous free-painted images. It is this Kraakware that triggered the development of Delft’s blue.
Tradewind’s distinctive range of blue & white jewelry is individually handcrafted in 'Sterling silver' and is truly one of a kind. Cufflinks, pendants, bracelet, earrings and medallions, with originality certificate and wrapped in a velvet pouch are available as of E125.
Saskya & Co, Stromarkt 5 corner Singel, Amsterdam centre. Open daily from 11h-18h (Thursdays till 19h).
